LUNENBURG -- May 12, 2026, Lunenburg Select Board sidelines elected constable over override politics, assigns police officer for Saturday election. The board voted unanimously Tuesday, May 12 to assign a police officer rather than the town's elected constable to the May 16 annual town election, citing the constable's visible public statements on the Proposition 2½ override, including what member Amanda Emke called "R-rated language" on one occasion and an appearance at town meeting in his constable uniform. Member Glenn McLeod said the conduct fell short of the standard expected of "elected positions that oversee elections." The board also voted unanimously to sell two tax-title parcels at 250 and 356 Hollis Road contingent on the Board of Assessors' review the following night, ratified the appointment of Kimberly Murphy as police executive assistant at step six, approved a peddler's license for solar sales representative Wayne Andrews with hours modified to Monday through Saturday, 2 to 7 p.m., and sent a formal advocacy letter to State Senator John Cronin urging that the Foundation Budget Review Commission language be preserved through the House-Senate conference committee process and that special education circuit breaker reimbursement reach 90 percent, with total unrestricted general government aid proposed in the Senate budget at approximately $1.376 billion.
