Lunenburg Water Panel Debates Sewer Late Fee Hike
Water · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Lunenburg water and sewer commissioners debate raising late fees, take no vote. Commissioners held an open discussion on raising the town's $10 sewer demand fee and 12 percent interest rate on delinquent accounts, both unchanged for roughly 15 years, without acting. Sewer Business Manager Andrew Villier reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 delinquencies of $56,505.94, or 16.63 percent of billings, with 195 of 961 bills late.
Commissioner Scott Doll said the flat fee "isn't generating much" and called the town a "secured creditor" that will eventually recover costs. Commissioner Dan Proctor pushed for a 14 percent rate and roughly $30 fee to match Fitchburg and Townsend. Commissioners settled informally near 14 percent and $25, pending Town Counsel Adam Costa's review of their legal authority, before the October 13 meeting.
The board separately voted 4-0 to accept its September 8 minutes.
