Lunenburg panel weighs tearing down aging T.C. Passios building

Lunenburg building committee leans toward demolishing aging T.C. Passios school building. Facilities Director Chris told a joint Select Board and Municipal Building Design Committee meeting the vacant building needs up to $1 million in asbestos remediation and a $1.3 million roof, saying "there is nothing worth saving in that building." No vote was taken, but committee member Tony said "it's pretty clear that the majority of people here don't want to waste any money." Members learned a $300,000 roof appropriation from November 2023 was voided by a double-appropriation error, later corrected at this year's annual town meeting, leaving no funds currently set aside for repairs.

The committee also told the Select Board it found no municipal use for the town-owned Brooks House, passing that decision back to the board. A building tour is planned for the week of August 10.
