Committee delays vote on new business manager
School Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Lunenburg School Committee interviews third business manager finalist in three years amid public pushback. Vice Chair Anthony Sculimbrene told finalist Derrick Andrews the job "has already proven to be problematic" and pressed him on how he'd stop the district from returning unspent funds to the town, as happened after a prior manager misreported spending at "99.1 or 99.2 percent." A resident identified as Mr. Rogers objected that the public couldn't question Andrews directly, calling it "just unbelievable." The committee, which votes September 16, separately ratified a three-year cafeteria workers' contract, accepted a Girl Scout-donated memorial bench, and will ask the town Finance Committee to fund an outside audit.
Chair Laura Brzozoski noted $408,000 approved at the September 3 special town meeting has already cut second-grade class sizes from 31 to 25 students.
