School Committee Requests Two Town Meeting Warrants

School Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026

Lunenburg schools advance two Special Town Meeting warrant articles amid a finance crunch. The School Committee voted unanimously Wednesday for placeholder warrants to fund a special education reserve and a turf field and track study, the latter estimated by Vice Chair Anthony Sculimbrene at "around 200,000" dollars. Superintendent Dr.

Jodi Fortuna reported finalist Derek Andrews withdrew from the business administrator search, prompting a repost at $160,000 to $165,000, and said calculation errors forced the committee to table re-ratifying the paraprofessional contract. Chair Laura Brzozoski, pushing for an aggressive finance hire, said "we are in a financial crisis that will not get better." Members also approved switching the eighth grade's Washington, D.C. trip to Amtrak travel for roughly 160 students at about $1,425 each, and adopted new operating protocols and three annual goals.
