Lunenburg Finance Committee Continues Budget Public Hearing to March 26
Lunenburg Finance Committee delays budget public hearing one week amid unresolved school budget questions.
LUNENBURG -- March 19, 2026, Lunenburg Finance Committee delays budget public hearing one week amid unresolved school budget questions. The committee voted unanimously at its March 19 meeting to open the annual budget public hearing and immediately continue it to March 26 at 7 p.m., with Chair Chris citing a rescheduled tri-board meeting and incomplete budget materials as reasons the committee was not prepared to proceed. Member Anna argued the School Committee is obligated under town bylaws to present a full budget with an explanation of major changes to the Finance Committee before Town Meeting, not merely a single-line appropriation figure, and the chair said he would follow up with both the School Committee and the Town Manager. Members also expressed concern that residents need to see detailed cut scenarios tied to a non-override outcome, with one member saying "if I vote against the override, what does that mean as far as cuts, I just know that's dollars." The committee acknowledged the hearing may be continued again on March 26, with a tri-board session involving all three boards scheduled for March 24.
