LUNENBURG -- April 2, 2026, Lunenburg Finance Committee defers Proposition 2½ override recommendation, approves most town meeting warrant articles. The five-member panel, meeting April 2 with two members absent, voted unanimously to defer its recommendation on the two-tier override, $2.4 million (Tier 1) and $3.3 million (Tier 2), to a follow-up session April 6, with member Anna saying she was "close to abstaining" and the committee wanting a full board present. Among the roughly two dozen articles acted on, the committee unanimously recommended a $270,000 free-cash buyout of employee accrued vacation liability tied to the town's November 2025 vacation-accrual system overhaul, a $335,437 transfer to the OPEB Trust Fund, and a $500,000 solid waste enterprise appropriation. A $250,000 Health Insurance Special Purpose Stabilization Fund transfer passed 4-1 after member Anna demanded a trigger threshold, settling on years when health insurance costs rise above 10 percent. The FY2027 operating budget and collective bargaining funding articles for firefighters, clerical, and DPW workers were deferred pending final figures and memoranda of understanding. A snow and ice deficit estimated at $615,000 also awaits final bills before the committee can act.
