Commission approves cemetery expansion, boat ramp order
Conservation · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Lunenburg Conservation Commission approves cemetery expansion, advances long-delayed Lake Shirley boat ramp. The board, with Chair Jennifer Pewtherer presiding and members Michael LaRouche, Andrea Burnap and Teddy Doucette present, voted 4-0 for a DPW request to grade wetland buffer at the North Cemetery on Holman Street, adding roughly 378 plots expected to last a minimum of ten years. It also approved, 4-0, an order of conditions for the Reservoir Recreational Trust's rebuilt concrete boat ramp on Lake Shirley, including buffer waivers, after resident Carl Luck challenged engineering assumptions treating compacted gravel as impervious surface and questioned a proposed retaining wall near a shoreline tree.
Conservation Agent Herlin Jaime advised against riprap as an alternative, calling a wall "one and done." Four other applications, including a Page Street driveway that drew objections from neighbors over runoff and setbacks, and two cases lacking a voting quorum, were continued to October 7. The commission also approved a flooring quote of $9,411.50 for the Hollis Road property, pending deposit clarification.
