Conservation Board Backs New Cowdery Trail Route

Conservation · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Lunenburg Conservation Commission reroutes Cowdery Nature Center trail to dodge wetland impacts. The board voted 5-0 to let engineering consultant Greg Roy fully design a Mulpus Road alternative that avoids direct wetland alteration, after member Mary Wilson said the commission "ought to be leading the example" on minimizing buffer-zone tree loss. Three other hearings, a Reservoir Road boat ramp, a Sunny Hill Road driveway crossing, and a Goodrich Street irrigation pond, were continued to September 16 at applicants' request.

The commission also voted 5-0 to advance a draft fee-schedule bylaw toward spring Town Meeting and approved $150 for hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors at its Hollis Road property. Former commissioner Carl Luck used public comment to press the board on late document filings and public-comment timing, warning inconsistent waiver documentation "leads to the impression of arbitrary and capricious decisions."
