Lunenburg School Committee learned a structural engineer declared McCarran Field's lower retaining wall in a state of failure. Superintendent of Schools Jodi Fortuna said the finding closes two track lanes and will end bleacher and press-box use after this season, with repairs estimated near $3 million headed to the Nov. 17 Special Town Meeting as Article 9. The committee voted 4-0 by roll call to ratify the cafeteria workers' contract and separately declined to create a policy letting students outside the district join LHS homecoming float building, with Chair Laura Brzozoski recusing herself over a personal conflict.
Warrants totaled $455,603.72. Members also approved $89,242.93 in transfers and donations including $300 from United Parish of Lunenburg for Best Buddies. "The bottom wall is in a state of failure," Fortuna said.
