School Committee · Meeting of October 7, 2026

Lunenburg's School Committee hired a new finance director and asked the town for $300,000 toward special education costs. Members voted 5-0 to recommend Richard Mathieu, currently of Concord Public Schools, as director of finance and operations pending contract talks. Director Julianna Bahosh said out-of-district special education placements have climbed from eight or nine a few years ago to roughly 14 now, averaging about $150,000 each, prompting the committee to request $300,000 in free cash contingent on November town meeting certification.

Chair Laura Brzozoski tied weak MCAS and DIBELS results to budget cuts, saying "we're not funding our schools." The board also voted that the district has no use for the vacant Brooks House and barred any future buyer from using the high school driveway.
