Lunenburg School Committee voted 3-0-1 to put $418,000 in potential state aid toward a new second-grade teacher and athletic transportation, not an independent audit. Superintendent Dr. Jodi Fortuna presented three scenarios contingent on the September 3 Special Town Meeting: a financial audit ($119,458), the teacher and literacy support ($15,736), or a second behavior analyst, with $10,000 for athletic transportation in every version.
Member Emily Young abstained after questioning the timeline for hiring a teacher this late in the year. The committee separately voted unanimously to support "the spirit" of a $151,338.38 citizen petition for middle school sports if town meeting funds it from outside the school budget. Petitioner Matt Nazarenko said he was "extremely disappointed" a member had called his numbers inaccurate.
Public comment included a lengthy exchange with resident Dave Rogers over reading scores and finance-office turnover.
